The Youth Leader Competition, an initiative of The Global Education & Leadership Foundation was launched in 2009 with the mission to recognise exceptional leadership skills in school students as well as honour them for their outstanding contribution to society. The Youth Leader Competition is a 6 months student engagement programme to identify exceptional talent with emphasis on ethical, altruistic and action‐oriented leadership.
In the last 7 years, the competition has drawn overwhelming participation from schools across the country and overseas. The vision of the competition is to promote the spirit of service for others by enabling school students to initiate change and make a sustainable impact on society. tGELF takes pride in the varied issues and causes that the young change makers have identified and adopted.
Youth Leader is open to students of Grades 8‐11 from tGELF member schools. It encourages the students to volunteer on issues of community concern and social importance. It provides a platform to budding leaders to represent their schools at the national level, learn, interact with each other and explore their potential as future leaders and change makers.
The annual recognition event for the top projects is held during the Finale in Harmony and includes a gala award ceremony. The finalists share their experiences and ideas as well as hear from notable public figures.
